Question: Does God give directions for our lives?

Answer (Sunday school variety): Yes!

Me: Okay, Smarty: name 5 times God has given you clear indications of a decision you should make...

It's okay, I'll wait.

And thus I stand. It's not that I don't believe that God CAN direct us, or even that He wants to. I think I'm too thick headed/stubborn/distracted to hear. What? God can't speak loudly enough to overcome my pathetic inabilities? Sure - he enabled a donkey to speak to get through to one bonehead. But he's also not in the habit of always beating us over the head with things. He doesn't MAKE us behave. We have to choose it. So does that mean I have to believe and try really hard and hope? I dunno.

See, I'm a practical thinker. Some would say that they feel a peace about a decision and that peace indicates God's approval. Okay. But if something is rational I usually feel good about it. And Man can rationalize anything he wants badly enough. What about "whatever makes you happy, because God wants you to be happy?" Well, DANGER there!! Happy isn't always on the menu and can often be the wrong direction.

So, if you have a decision about a job to take, a position to quit, money to give, etc, realistically speaking (I won't tell anyone) what do you do?
